Citations & Verification

Source Citation Policy

Why every term must link to authentic veterinary colleges and peer-reviewed literature.

Mandatory Primary Source Rules

Every definition, drug monograph, and surgical summary published on MedicalDictionary.com must include at least one verified primary source citation meeting these strict criteria:

  • Authentic Authority: Sourced from recognized veterinary professional colleges (ACVIM, AAHA, AAFP, AVMA, ACVS, ACVO), regulatory agencies (FDA CVM, USDA), or established academic bodies.
  • Accessible Verification: Citations must provide active URLs directly to the published consensus statement, journal article, or regulatory archive.
  • Access Date Stamping: All sources record an explicit accessDate to ensure citations remain audited against guideline updates.

Prohibited Sources

To protect clinical accuracy, our editorial team strictly prohibits the following as primary citations:

  • Commercial pet food marketing blogs or pet retail websites.
  • Unreferenced consumer forum posts or social media claims.
  • AI-generated unverified summaries without human clinical auditing.
