Clinical Review Standards

Medical Review Policy

Our pledge of radical transparency regarding clinical review designations.

Zero Fabricated Reviewers

A widespread, unethical practice on consumer health websites is inventing fictional doctor names, generating AI headshots, or claiming "medically reviewed by Dr. Jane Doe" without verified clinical input.

MedicalDictionary.com will never do this. We believe that trust in healthcare information requires absolute honesty about who wrote it, who reviewed it, and what standards were followed.

Standardized Review Status Classifications

Every term page displays an explicit review status badge corresponding to its lifecycle state:

unreviewed_verified_sourcesThe term content has been rigorously synthesized from primary consensus statements and guidelines (ACVIM/AAHA/AAFP), but has not yet received an individual, signed board-certified specialist review.
veterinary_reviewedThe entry has been independently reviewed, audited, and approved by a named, licensed Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM / VMD) with active credentials.
specialist_reviewedThe entry has been reviewed and certified by a board-certified veterinary specialist diplomate (e.g., DACVIM, DACVS, DACVO).
